October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Sadly, DV is still a major issue here and around the world. More women visit emergency rooms due to injuries at the hands of their husbands or boyfriends than for accidents and rapes combined. We know you probably have people in your life who would benefit from the boundary setting and confidence building of an IMPACT course.

Invite them to a graduation and get them inspired:

Advanced: October 11 at 3:30pm

Basics: October 18 at 10:30am

Or have them come get a taste at the next workshop: October 24th, 3-6pm

Say Boo to violence against women - Fight Night Fright Night! Our next Fight Night falls on Halloween so we decided to make it a party and a fundraiser! Grads, come get tuned up on the fight of your choice and help your favorite self-defense non-profit pay the bills. To sign up and name your donation from $30 to $100 on our sliding scale. Give what you can and come have fun. We'll have Halloween treats and you can even fight in costume...within reason - no spikey heels on the mats!

There has been much discussion this last month about the murder of Annie Le in her lab at Yale. This highlights the fact that a huge majority of women's homicide deaths occur in the workplace - just where we let our guard down because we assume we're safe. While we don't advocate paranoia, we do believe in awareness and intuition. Pay attention to your gut feeling about people you work with. If someone gives you a funny feeling, check that you're never alone on the way to the parking garage with him, etc. Don't dismiss your feeling as a silly girl thing. And of course, get yourself trained in boundary setting and physical defense. We can't rely on bosses, guards or security cameras to keep us safe.
